We thought the San Francisco 49ers escaped the Packers game without any new injuries, but that wasn’t the case. Kyle Shanahan announced Monday afternoon that defensive end Damontre Moore broke his forearm during Sunday night’s game. Here is Shanahan on Moore’s demeanor:
I know he’s really down because he wanted to be apart of us for the rest of the year. It was really cool how he played these two weeks. It was exactly like the preseason. He came off the street and played at a high level. We can’t tell you how impressed we were with him. Shanahan said Moore played through a broken forearm all game. Called him a “special dude.”
Jeremiah Valoaga will likely be promoted from the practice squad. That’s a tough blow. Moore replaced Solomon Thomas and was much more effective. He was originally filling in for Ronald Blair, who was lost for the season two weeks ago with a torn ACL.
Shanahan said Dee Ford has a chance to play against the Ravens next Sunday. The head coach said that Ford was expected to miss around two weeks with a hamstring injury, and Sunday should put him right around that timetable. Asking Valoaga to play 34 snaps, the same amount Moore played, or right around, there seems like a big ask. More than ever, this is the week the Niners will need athleticism upfront.
Shanahan said that Robbie Gould is getting closer to returning. Gould was kicking well before Sunday night’s contest. Shanahan said Ford, Gould, and Matt Breida would all likely be game-time decisions. He said that Joe Staley is doing rehab, and has a 50/50 shot at playing as well.
