Lamar Jackson named AFC Offensive Player of the Week. . . again. Does he care? Probably not. - Baltimore Beatdown

Lamar Jackson has been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week and third time this season. Jackson is the first player in the NFL to earn player said honors three times this season.

Jackson is also nominated for the FedEx Air Player of the Week. Jackson is the first player to win the “air” and “ground” aspects of the FedEx award and did so in the same season, nonetheless. Jackson also posted the second highest-graded quarterback performance in Pro Football Focus’ 13-year history.

The spotlight has turned to the 22-year-old Louisville product, yet he seems to grow only more poised under the brightest lights. His meteoric rise to stardom is due to his advanced maturity both on and off the field.

In the Ravens nine games of 2019, Jackson has only turned the ball over in two. Regardless of other statistics, being just 22 years old, a full-time starter and yet only turning the ball over once every four or five games is astounding.

Surely if you’re reading this article you’ve seen the conversation between John Harbaugh and Lamar Jackson. Jackson vehemently states that the only hardware he cares about is a trophy that is accompanied by a ring.

His down to earth attitude has been unchanged, whether he’s the star Heisman winner at Louisville, the last pick of the first round, sitting in the stands of Westminster High School in Carroll County on a Friday night, or producing jaw dropping highlights as the most electrifying playmaker in the NFL.

Jackson doesn’t care about the stats, he doesn’t care about the awards (he did already win a Heisman, after all), he simply cares about winning. However, us football geeks care about stats. Here are a few about what Jackson has done so far:

  • Ranks 15th all time in QB rating among passers with 400+ career attempts. He’s currently ahead of Kurt Warner, Ben Roethlisberger, Joe Montana, Andrew Luck, Brett Favre, Dan Marino, Carson Wentz, Derek Carr, Jared Goff and countless others.
  • Second player to record multiple games with a perfect passer rating in the same season.
  • First player to win the FedEx Air award and FedEx Ground award in the same season.
  • Back to back AFC Offensive Player of the Week awards, third time winning award in 2019.
  • First player (regular season) to throw for 200 yards and run for 150 yards. Only the second player to ever do it (Kaepernick did in the postseason).
  • Most 100 yard rushing games by a QB in one season.

Jackson’s dizzying array of highlights are an accomplishment on their own. . .

All of this is, “pretty cool.” In the end, nobody cares, work harder.
