Grading the Jets after their 34-27 win over the Giants on Sunday.
Offense
The Jets came out flying again Sunday, then disappeared for a while, but they found their way in the second half and won the game. Sam Darnold (19 of 30, 230 yards, 1 passing TD, 3 rushes, 25 yards, 1 rushing TD) was not spectacular but he made enough key plays and did not turn the ball over. The offensive line was better, but the rushing yards still were not there (2.6 yards per carry). Demaryius Thomas (6 catches, 84 yards) and Jamison Crowder (5 catches, 81 yards, 1 TD) made some big plays.
Grade: B-
Defense
The Jets spent the week talking about shutting down Saquon Barkley. That is exactly what they did, holding him to 1 yard on 13 carries. Daniel Jones (26 of 40, 308 yards, 4 TDs) controlled the middle of the game, but had a big turnover on a strip-sack TD by Jamal Adams (9 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble return, 1 TD). The Jets sacked Jones six times, a season high.
Grade: B
Special Teams
It was a nondescript game for the most part for the special teams. Kicker Sam Ficken was 2-for-3 on field goals. The Jets had one holding penalty on a kickoff return. They did not have any long returns, but also did not give up any. Punter Lachlan Edwards averaged 45.6 yards per punt and put two inside the 20.
Grade: B-
Coaching
Adam Gase was under siege this week from media and fans calling for his job. He was able to keep his team steady and come out with a win. The offense was not pretty at times, but Gase called a good game overall. Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams shut Saquon Barkley down. Daniel Jones nearly beat them, but Williams was able to bring pressure when the Jets needed it.
