How much does eye test really matter when three unbeaten frontrunners have emerged in the College Football Playoff race?
Judging by Tuesday's Playoff Top 25 reveal from the selection committee, great emphasis on playing well and looking good while doing it remains among selection committee members, whose biggest dilemma this week was who to slot at No. 4.
It's still early, but LSU may have stamped its ticket to a semifinal appearance with its seismic win at Alabama, the nation's most impressive this season considering it ended the Crimson Tide's eight-game streak in the series and four-year stretch without a loss at home.
"We felt we were the better team the whole time, but we knew we were going to have to go out there and prove it and we did," LSU coach Ed Orgeron said.
Like all subjective discussions, various factors are taken into account during the process including strength of schedule and head-to-head competition as tie-breakers between teams that look similar. Conference championships, another bullet point of criteria, won't come into play until final rankings are released in December.
Playoff chair Rob Mullens continues to reiterate the importance of quality wins over bad losses and that was reflected again on Tuesday night with the committee's impression of Georgia.
Speaking of which, here is the full Top 25 from the selection committee's second rankings reveal:
