Barry Odom is out as Missouri head football coach after four seasons, but he may not be out of work for long. Odom is a highly respected defensive mind, and a reunion with Justin Fuente would be a logical step.
Odom worked under Fuente at Memphis before his move to Missouri.
And Fuente finds himself in need of a defensive coordinator in 2020.

Legendary Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster announced his retirement at the end of the season. After the Hokies bowl game, Fuente needs a new play caller in Blacksburg. Foster, Fuente and the Hokies lost out on a chance at the ACC Championship Game with a 39-30 result Friday against Virginia. Now, they await their bowl destination.
“Disappointed for our guys,” Foster said. “It was a hard fought game on both sides. It was great football game, I’m sure from the fans’ perspective. From a coach’s standpoint, it was not that much fun, especially at the end there. If we were on that other side, it would be a lot of fun. Luckily, we have been on that positive side a lot more than we haven’t. Our kids will remember this I think. I talked to them about a rivalry. A rivalry is when two teams win and now this team won. So yeah, we will need to kick this thing back up again when it is all said and done.”
For Odom, Missouri fired him Saturday after a 25-25 record through four seasons. Missouri will not play in a bowl game following NCAA sanctions regarding a former Missouri tutor that completed coursework for 12 student athletes.
"Coach Odom has represented our program with integrity and dedicated himself to developing our student-athletes on and off the football field for which we are grateful,” said athletic director Jim Sterk. “We wish the very best for him and his family in their future endeavors. As a program, we had tremendous momentum coming into the 2019 season with the opening of the new south end zone facility as well as other strategic investments in our football program. However, we lost a great deal of that energy during the last half of the season. This decision was difficult to make but was necessary."
