Chiefs defensive end Frank Clark played in Week 10 against the Titans, when Derrick Henry ran for 188 yards and two touchdowns in a Tennessee victory.
So he shouldn't underestimate Henry's ability to repel (or run away from) tacklers. But Clark has.
Clark, who is listed at 6-foot-3, 260 pounds, downplayed the difficulty of tackling the league's hottest ball carrier, who is listed at 6-foot-3, 247 pounds, in an interview with James Palmer of NFL Network.
"(Henry is) not hard to hit," Clark said, according to the NFL Network. "He's just a big guy ... honestly he should be running harder at his weight and his size. I don't see no difficulty in tackling him."
"... He's just easy to me up front because I don't look at any running back like they can't be tackled. He's not one of the best guys at breaking tackles to me honestly. He's just a big body, and when people look at him, they're scared to tackle him or they look at him and they're scared to play aggressive. I think I'm the aggressor. I know I am."
Ravens safety Earl Thomas displayed similar confidence last week before Henry ran for 195 yards in the Titans' upset win in Baltimore. Thomas made the highlight reel, all right; Henry pushed and pulled Thomas around on a long run in the first half.
To Clark's credit, he has had an excellent second half of the season, compiling eight sacks in the last eight games with three of them coming against the Texans in the AFC Divisional Playoffs. The former Seattle Seahawk battled a neck issue and a stomach bug midway through the season and is now one of the Chiefs' impact pass rushers.
But healthy defenses, top defenses and strong defenses have all had issues in stopping Henry, whose postseason rushing total this January already ranks among the top 10 in playoff history. Henry also led the NFL with 968 yards after contact in the regular season.
Clark should know better. And Henry might help Clark figure out how hard he is to bring down on Sunday in Arrowhead Stadium.
