We’re less than a week away from the NBA’s Feb. 6 trade deadline, one of three times during the year when the potential of front offices reshaping their rosters drives fans’ anticipation, fear and excitement.
Now 31-18 after Thursday’s road loss to the Hawks, the Sixers sit in the Eastern Conference’s sixth playoff spot. The results are disappointing based on high preseason expectations, but realistically even the second seed is still in play, with the Raptors three and a half games ahead of Philadelphia with 33 games left to play.
The Sixers’ strengths and weaknesses are obvious. They have the NBA’s third-ranked defense, and it should scale well come playoffs — a potentially suffocating combination of length, quickness and instincts.
