Odds released on Florida State's next head coach - 247Sports

Search firms. Buyout payments. Banter on potential candidates.

Florida State became the first program to part ways with its head coach this season on Sunday, making the call to cut ties with Willie Taggart only 21 games into his tenure.

Nine wins later, dwindling ticket sales and public support led to his ousting according to Seminoles athletic director David Coburn, who said this week it would not benefit the program to keep him around any longer.

"There's a lot of ways to measure what was happening with the team," Coburn said. "I thought that at the beginning of the season we were making progress. Clemson was a disappointment and I just felt and the president felt since then we just have not looked very good.

"It was not an easy decision. You have to look at season- ticket sales, renewals, new tickets moving forward. Obviously those are tied to booster contributions to the annual fund. You're looking at the implications for concessions, parking, you look at that vis-a-vis the cost of a buyout, cost of a new coaching staff, you have to make a decision."

According to SportsLine oddsmakers, there are nine coaches with odds to land the job in Tallahassee, a few much more likely than others. The odds, for entertainment purposes, are set from frontrunners to longshots.

One coach noticeably excluded? Penn State's James Franklin, who many national analysts have opined would at least be interested in hearing FSU's sales pitch:
