The NFL trade deadline came and went and the New England Patriots did... nothing. Even though there were multiple rumors swirling around the team leading up to today’s 4:00 p.m. ET deadline, it decided to stand pat and not make any additional moves before the window closed after already acquiring wide receiver Mohamed Sanu last week and also trading away defensive lineman Michael Bennett.
Entering the day, the Patriots’ main focus reportedly appeared to be at the tight end position. Two of the most popular names linked to the team as potential targets were the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ O.J. Howard and the Cincinnati Bengals’ Tyler Eifert, but neither will wear the the navy and silver anytime soon: both players stayed put through the trade deadline and will play the 2019 season out with their current teams.
Other players also seen as potential Patriots trade targets in the week leading up to the deadline — i.e. Washington offensive tackle Trent Williams — also did not find their way to Foxborough. Likewise, the team decided to not move any players off its current roster either in return for outside assets or future draft picks. That being said, New England of course still has the possibility to add players via the open market or from other teams’ practice squads.
On top of it all, the club is expected to get two offensive reinforcements soon by way of the injured reserve return designation: wide receiver N’Keal Harry recently returned to practice as the Patriots’ first designated player to return from IR and could be activated before this Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens; offensive tackle Isaiah Wynn is also now eligible to practice with his teammates and could be back on the field as early as Week 12.
Overall, just one trade was made today:
CB Aqib Talib and a 2020 fifth-round pick: from Los Angeles Rams to Miami Dolphins for an undisclosed draft pick
