Michigan football vs. Notre Dame series to continue in 2033 and 2034 - Detroit Free Press

Two of the most iconic college football programs have agreed to rekindle the rivalry after Saturday night in Ann Arbor.

It'll just be a while before Michigan football takes on Notre Dame again.

U-M announced Saturday morning that the Wolverines and Fighting Irish will play a home-and-home series in 2033 and 2034. On Sept. 3, 2033, U-M will be the home team, followed by an ND home game on Sept. 2, 2034.

Michigan vs. Notre Dame:: Scouting report, prediction

Saturday night marks the completion of a home-and-home series that started with each team's opener last season in South Bend.

From 1978 to 2014, Michigan and Notre Dame played 31 out of 37 seasons. U-M leads the all-time series, 24-18-1, entering Saturday night's game at Michigan Stadium.

Notre Dame decided to back out of the rivalry after the 2014 season, in part because of the program's commitment to play more games against ACC teams.

When Jim Harbaugh was hired as U-M's coach, his call to Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly helped initiate the two programs playing one another again.
