The Indianapolis Colts went into Sunday’s game on the back of a bye week having beat the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs. The Colts were able to rest up over the bye week and grind out a tough division win against the Houston Texans. There were plenty of strong showings during the 30-23 win, and a few poor ones, as well.
Here’s the stock report for week 7:
Stock Up: Jacoby Brissett
Jacoby Brissett had the best game of his career to date. He threw for four touchdowns and 326 yards completing 66% of his passes. Brissett looked like a man on fire, consistently finding his receivers, keeping plays alive with his mobility and making clutch throws. Stock up, Jacoby!
Stock Down: 4th and 1
Frank Reich goes for it on 4th down yet gain! Unfortunately this time he didn’t get it, losing his perfect record on 4th down conversions for the season. The issue wasn’t the idea to go for it on 4th and 1, it was more the play design that was the problem. Frank Reich even admitted after the game it was the wrong decision to run a pitch type play instead of just running it up the middle. Personally I go by the saying “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” and the best call looked like it should of been a QB sneak with Brissett as has worked so well before.
Stock Up: Zach Pascal
Zach Pascal, have yourself a day! Pascal had 6 receptions on 7 targets, 106 yards receiving, 2 touchdowns and even forced a safety. If he hadn’t already proved himself earlier on the year then today proved it, Pascsal belongs on this roster and should be the teams clear WR2 at the moment.
Stock Down: Run game
Not many times this year you will hear me say that the Colts running game was poor. Marlon Mack stumbled his way to 44 yards on 18 attempts and the team only managed a very uncharacteristic 62 yards on the ground for the game. What might have been a factor in this poor showing was the Texans were clearly trying to stop the Colts running all over them, so instead, the Colts decided to air it out and four touchdowns later, the Colts won.
Stock up: Run Defense
Holding the number 4 ranked rushing offense to 69 yards and 3 Deshaun Watson runs is exactly the step in the right direction that the run defense needed. The Colts run defense had been poor early in the year and the Chiefs game seemed to be the first turning point but shutting down the Texans rushing defense was huge. Having Jabaal Sheard back sure does help!
Stock down: Deon Cain
Deon Cain (or should we start calling him Mr.Invisible, now?). When Devin Funchess went down in game 1 with a broken collarbone, most thought Cain would be the WR2 and step up in Funchess absence. Unfortunately, apart from a couple big pass interference calls, all that Cain has managed to muster is 4 catches for 52 yards in 6 games, not exactly WR2 numnbers. Cain seems to be getting overtaken by every other wide receiver and with Funchess not far off from returning, week 11, Cain may have lost his best opportunity.
