The NFL trading deadline came and went at 4 p.m. on Tuesday and the Cleveland Browns were no where to be found.
It may not have been for lack of trying, however, as general manager John Dorsey made it clear he was interested in Washington Redskins left tackle Trent Williams. But with the Redskins reportedly wanting a first-round pick - and possibly more - Dorsey decided the smart play was to walk away.

Moments after the trading deadline passed, Williams reported back to the Redskins so that he would be credited with another year of service and move closer to free agency, according to The Washington Post.
With no outside reinforcements on the way, the Browns will continue to work through the season with what they have on hand at left tackle. On Sunday against the New England Patriots, Justin McCray took over the Greg Robinson at the position, but failed to show much improvement as he allowed a sack, five quarterback pressures and committed one false start, according to cleveland.com.
McCray’s poor play could mean that the Browns could return to Robinson at some point this season. There also remains the possibility that Wyatt Teller will take over at right guard for Eric Kush at some point - Teller played 11 snaps against the Patriots, and right tackle Chris Hubbard remains a weak link, although the options to replace him remain limited until Kendall Lamm returns to full health.
Things have been rough for what was a strength of the team in 2018, and the offensive line currently finds itself ranked at No. 22 by Pro Football Focus:
Joel Bitonio is one of the best guards in football, and he’s shown that through the first eight weeks of the season. He leads the team and ranks 12th among all qualifying offensive linemen with his 80.0 overall grade across 446 offensive snaps. The problem is Bitonio is the only Browns lineman playing at a high level right now. Chris Hubbard and Eric Kush have both earned sub-50.0 overall grades in Weeks 1-8.
Dorsey had an interest in getting a deal done but the price turned out to be too high for Williams, and the other reported options - Nate Solder of the New York Giants and Halapoulivaati Vaitai of the Philadelphia Eagles - appeared to have held little appeal.
So the Browns are left with the players on hand, for better or worse.
